Hey everyone! Let’s all do our part for equal rights. Let’s get the repeal of Prop 8 back on the ballot! Click on the link below….. Have a great day!
Hi everyone!
I am writing this anecdote to share with you what happened to me this weekend en route from LA to Vegas…. I am hoping in doing so to see justice done! Let me explain….
I boarded the plane, with my “business select” ticket as I am a frequent SW customer, excited for my romantic getaway weekend with my man.
After about 20 minutes of the 60 minute flight went by, I got up to use the restroom.
While in the restroom, the flight attendant started banging on the door saying “Miss! Smoking is NOT permitted in flight!”.
I was thinking – “Is she talking to me?” So, I replied…”Sorry?” – as I’m trying to do my business in peace!
Then, I feel her hands all but coming through the side of the restroom. There must be someway they can bust in or whatever. She’s banging and I quickly pause what I’m doing, pull up my jeans, and open the door. Can you say “feeling a bit violated?”
She was literally in my face yelling at me in front of everyone – accusing me, without premise, of smoking! I have nothing against smokers. It is a free country I just happen to be a non-smoker and have been all my life. And, If I was a smoker, I wouldn’t commit a federal offense by sneaking a cigarette in an airplane restroom!
So, I calmly said – “Ma’am, I am actually a singer and don’t smoke. And, if you’d like to pat me down you will find I do not have cigarettes, a lighter, matches….in fact, go into the restroom and look in the trash too if you’d like but, I’d like an apology because I was going to the bathroom in there, not smoking!”
She continued ranting and raving “I don’t HAVE to check, anyone can smell and see the smoke in the air!”
Again, I’m thinking – “Huh?!?”. Ummmm, there was no haze or smoke or anything in the air. To lighten the mood I said “Maybe what your smelling is gas? I AM a bit gassy today!!!”
She then abruptly said, “I will deal with you later!”
Again, I demanded an apology.
By this point, other passengers were whispering and pointing. A few knew me as I heard my name being murmured. Grrreat!
She then got on her phone and called what, at this point I thought may be the police to greet me upon arrival! I have to admit, now I was getting nervous because this woman was one hundred percent sure that I was smoking in that restroom! Innocent ’til proven guilty? I think not. I was actually kinda hoping there would be police and some kind of blood test or something to really show her!!!
She also pointed me out to her counterpart. I was a marked passenger!
This woman should be fired. She publicly humiliated an innocent person. The fact that she ruined my flight and I didn’t get to relax is beside the point. She was aggressive and accusatory with NO premise. It was absolutely ridiculous.
I even smelled my sweater this morning thinking “I was in my friend’s car who is a smoker the other night…maybe my sweater smells of smoke?”. It doesn’t! And, if it did, is it a crime to smell like smoke? I have nothing against smokers – I am simply not one. And, the fact that I had to defend myself for the better part of the flight is appalling. The irony is, when I eventually sat back down to try to cool off, I went back to my reading material….a health and fitness magazine as I am clean living!
I got her name on the way off the plane. Marion. Scottish or Irish woman. Flying daily from Burbank to Vegas. Beware!!!
I am not traveling Southwest ’til someone does something about this situation. A written or face to face apology from this woman would be nice.
For a 39 year old professional woman to be singled out for no good reason, and – for her not to take me at my word is an injustice. And, clearly I was not some teenage party girl/rebel heading out of town for a weekend of debauchery! It takes only a relatively aware and instinctual person to assess that!
So, that’s my story….. I will most likely be driving back to LA because I really do not want to even chance seeing that woman’s face again. I guess a badge and a walkie talkie make some people feel reeeeally powerful! And, to think I gave her courtesy laughs during her attempted comical take on the safety routine!
The good news is, I had fabulous French food with my fabulous boyfriend! Smoking was allowed on the patio. We sat inside : )
Safe and peaceful travels everyone!!
X DEBORAH

I opened up my laptop and Deb read your comments directly from the site. Unfortunately, she skipped around and didn’t get to all of them (it looks like she skipped over some of the longer questions). Below I have listed the questions that she seems to have answered in the video. Hopefully we can make this a more regular thing, so if your questions didn’t get answered this time, be on the look out for the next “Ask Deb” blog post where you’ll be able to ask again! – Bob
Your Questions:
Sock Puppet Says:
What does Deb think about archival footage on YouTube and what current artist she probably would like to work with (ie duet or writing/producing a song for the particular artist).
Michael Harker Says:
Are you ever coming 2 London again,2 either tour or do another West End show? What about a new album? Colored Lights was fantastic! Michael
Jason Smith Says:
Deborah I’ve read that you dealt with anxiety/panic attacks, how did you finally conquer them? Any advice would be appreciated.
Matt Says:
Deb, have you seen the Chula Vista Show Choir performance of Electric Youth on youtube yet?! How amazing, right?

christyz Says:
A few years ago I had a music video of EY I think but I since misplaced it. On it was a song that you did with one of your Dancers called love under my pillow. My question is are you or have you recorded this song and who was the dancer.
I relate to this song when I am sea (sailior) because it reminds me of home when things are tough.
ghettosushi Says:
Keith Stewart was the backup dancer who sang “Love Under My Pillow” with Deborah onstage during her Electric Youth World Tour, as captured on video. To my knowledge, Deborah has not announced that she has recorded this song, and it is only available on the video.
SUZYQ Says:

Billy Joel released an album of “classical” instrumental music that he composed- really lovely music!
Have you ever personally recorded any instrumental pieces and would you consider releasing an instrumental album???
Matt Says:
Time for another question!
Deb, we’re all excited to hear new music, but look back at theater for a second. Is there any role you haven’t checked off on your “dream list” yet?

Rachel Says:
Lori, this is a good question. Yea, Deb please convert all your concerts to DVD. Thanks.
Plebes Says:
Deb, great interview with Bob! Can you describe some of the styles or sounds that you’ve playing around with in the studio for your next album?….have you cut any tracks that you think will make it on the next album? If so can you tell us a little about them?
Steve Says:
Hey Deb, you’re the best.
I noticed that at least for the several years you usually ditch your shoes and perform barefoot. I think this is wonderfully laid back and cool, and wondered if there was a particular reason you started doing it, or if you’re just a barefoot sort of gal in general.
Darren Says:

I wish to see you in concert soon in Montreal and have the chance to meet you. It’s one of my biggest dream. I also wonder when we will be able to hear your new album?
Take care and have a nice day!
Patrick Lee Says:
Hey Deborah (and Bob),
I am now a singer/songwriter in my own right – how are you? I played Canada this year also, at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto this past Nov! Got the chance to meet Steven Page (formerly of Barenaked Ladies) and we’d still cover “If I Had $1000000″ – in the “Kraft Dinner” line can we now say “we wouldn’t have to eat Kraft Dinner – we wouldn’t ’cause Deborah’s making us eat more BK steakhouse burgers with the A1s on top! Mmmmm” (hopefully this will make them stop pelting boxes of mac & cheese at us!)
I’ll be doing a show in Long Island (your old backyard) at The Nutty Irishman in Farmingdale, NY on Dec 28 – can you swing by? The tix are not on sale via Ticketmaster or Ticketweb.com yet, but I’d let you in for free, and possibly even join me on stage…
-Patrick Lee
P.S. – Saw Ed Ryan last week, remember him as the Underdogs frontman?
Travis Says:
Is there any chance of you performing Anything is Possible, Another Brick Falls, or Reverse Psychology anytime soon? AIP is my favorite Deb-record, and it never really got its moment in the sun.

Sarah Lonsert, a promising, young pop singer/songwriter based in Orange County, CA, has won the SongwriterUniverse “Best Song Of The Month” Contest for January, for her song “Dancing Through Life” (co-written by Jonathan George). Lonsert will be independently releasing her debut album, Dreams And Poetry, this February (2010).

“Dancing Through Life” is a well-crafted, contemporary dance/pop song which has a hooky chorus melody and pulsing dance track. Interestingly, what makes this song truly stand out is its positive, uplifting lyric message. The lyric (as indicated by its title) has a joyful, celebrative theme that resonates beyond its dancefloor groove. This song was skillfully produced by Anthony Mazza, who is known for recording and touring with Christina Aguilera and other major artists.
Lonsert, who is only 17, was both in Anaheim, CA, and she got into music at a young age. Notably, she was inspired to learn and develop her music due to being diagnosed as autistic. “I got into music because I was autistic,” explained Lonsert. “When I was young I would throw temper tantrums, but I learned to channel my emotions into my music. I’m still autistic, but [my condition has improved] due to five years of therapy, and developing my music.”
When she was 15, Lonsert had a breakthrough when she attended the Camp Electric Youth music & performance camp run by Deborah Gibson (former teen star & platinum artist). “It was great attending this camp and learning about performing, and connecting with an audience,” said Lonsert. “Deborah taught me how to write songs, and she produced some of my demos. I also wrote two songs with her.”

During the past two years, Lonsert has written many songs, and she is completing her debut album, Dreams And Poetry. The album is being produced by Anthony Mazza, and features several songs co-written with Jonathan George.
One of her favorite songs remains “Dancing Through Life.” “I wanted this song to have a positive philosophy, to say that life can be fun, even if someone is going through some difficult times,” she said. Impressively, “Dancing Through Life” recently was the grand prize winner in the USA Songwriting Competition, and Lonsert was named Singer/Songwriter Of The Year at the L.A. Music Awards.
Lonsert will be promoting her new album with a show at the Roxy club in L.A. on January 27. She will also be performing several shows in Arizona, and in Southern California.
It’s rare to hear a young girl say she just got out of a Los Angeles recording studio.
But for 12-year-old Kaleigh Jo Kirk, who was recently working on a full-length CD, it’s just as much a part of her daily routine as any other activity for a girl her age.
She also competes in vocal competitions, works with renowned producers and sound engineers, and gets 200 hits a day on her MySpace page.
For this blue-eyed, blonde-haired Cochranite, who has a heart-breaking smile sporting a mouth full of braces, singing is more than a pastime — she just can’t get enough of it.
Since the age of seven, Kirk has immersed herself in vocal, guitar and piano lessons. She brings her love of performance to the stage with a fervor that can only be brought by youth and energy, complemented by a natural talent for singing.
More recently, Kirk has also taken up flute, drums and percussion with her school concert and jazz bands.
Even though Kirk has spent the last year working closely with distinguished industry professionals, such as Alex Cantrall, Deborah Gibson and Australian producer Mike Puskas, her biggest supporters by far are her parents, Chandra and Ken Kirk.

“The interesting thing about L.A. is that you hear it’s so cutthroat, but everyone we’ve dealt with over three years — producers, musicians, engineers — have been wonderful,” remarks Ken, looking at his daughter in that reflective way only a father filled with pride can.
Maintaining a child’s focus is the biggest responsibility of any parent who has a child pursuing music at the level Kaleigh Jo is.
Chandra and Ken seem to have that aspect nailed down, as they are right by their daughter’s side every step of the way, ensuring Kaleigh Jo has balance in her life — from her extracurricular activities, social life and marks in school to her commitment to music.
One of this young singer/songwriter’s recent accomplishments was singing the national anthem at the NHL Alumni/Cochrane Generals game held at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sport Centre Dec. 5.
Kaleigh Jo blew the house away with her acapella rendition of the anthem, alternating French and English verses — making quite an impression on spectators in her hometown.
In regards to her recent studio experiences, Kaleigh Jo loved being in the studio learning from industry mentors. They were highly impressed by both her maturity as a young vocalist, as well as her endurance in the studio.
“It felt really great. I met so many great people and it turned out to be very beneficial,” gushes Kaleigh Jo over her second cup of hot chocolate and whipped cream.
“Singing is a second way of expressing how you feel. You can show so many different emotions in one line or one lyric.”
She feels very strongly about sending out a message to kids everywhere to accept who they are and celebrate it.
Kaleigh Jo wrote the melody line and lyrics to My Smile, recorded by well-known executive producer Deborah Gibson and a team of professionals, after being bullied by a girl at school.
Modern music has many questionable role models, as most parents — including the Kirks — would agree with.
For Kaleigh Jo, Taylor Swift has made a strong impression as she possesses a dynamic vocal range and is clearly a suitable role model for young musicians.
To learn more about Kaleigh Jo Kirk, you can visit myspace.com/kaleighjokirk.
Stay tuned for her debut full-length CD release, which is currently being mastered and will be available in the early part of 2010.

As we do every year, we tallied up the most popular movie trailers of ‘09, according to video streaming numbers. And it proved to be a big year: the two most popular videos each nabbed over 20 million views. By and large, the top trailers of the year were mostly box-office behemoths, featuring killer robots, sparkly vampires, and airborne senior citizens. One trailer, however, was not for a blockbuster even though it did star Debbie Gibson and Lorenzo Lamas. We listed the top ten trailers of the year below. See if you can figure out which flick of the bunch wasn’t a big hit.
